WHO IS 919 ZERO?
919 Zero, I believe, is the soul of Johnston County. 919, of course, is the area code I'm from and everyone calls me Zero. From a reference to the movie "Holes," my friends and family had given me that name as a child (laughing). I quickly grew out of it, but the name stuck. I grew up playing basketball with dreams of going to the NBA. I was always one of the smallest on the team, so I had hesitations, but there was not one person that was gonna tell me I couldn't make it. I've always been determined at anything I had a passion for. As time went on, I got a real glimpse of what my future was holding for me, and it was full of hesitation. I started consistently smoking weed at the age of 13, but I don't think any of my family knew until I was about 15 when I went into the house smoked out and walked right into my mom's room laughing like hell (laughing). I used to sing in church, and it kinda gave me that little bit of confidence to bust a note outta nowhere (laughing). I made my first song in June of 2018, but I was always musically inclined because I grew up listening to music. I feel like everyone has whether they paid attention to it or not. I won't lie, I didn't think I would even make it this far. I'm blessed enough that people in my neighborhood know me.
WHEN YOU CREATE MUSIC, WHO ARE YOU CREATING FOR?
The Lord. I feel like nothing would be possible without The Lord himself.
3 WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND.
Faithful. Relatable. Unique.
WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION?
Through God. And J. Cole (laughing). Also, one of my very rare inspirations is the sky. I always try to tell the children to not walk with their heads down. If you're gonna be distracted, at least look to the sky, you know? You already know what's on the ground, but you can never tell what's up there.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR 919 ZERO?
I'll go ahead and expose myself, I guess (laughing). I'm going to be featured on some crazy projects this year, such as "Insomnia" The Mixtape by TREVON (@trevon_official_) and "Diastema" The Album by Madison Jay (@TheMadisonJay).
