WHO IS 285 JUNE?

285 June is a self-taught graphic designer, screen printer, and product designer.

BEING IN THE DESIGNER AND FASHION INDUSTRY, WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU HAVE CHALLENGES WITH WHEN CREATING?

I would say the biggest challenge is finding the right supplier and/or manufacturer of raw materials and finished goods. The approach I’ve taken to creating goods, dealing particularly in the local economy, really opened my eyes to understanding that the problems that I face are also a major challenge for others.

YOU NOW HAVE A BRAND CALLED WARES, WHAT’S THE PURPOSE OF CREATING THIS BRAND AFTER DISCONTINUING NAËTIVE?

I felt that WARES was a natural progression of my creative work. I started the brand as a test I ran for a screenprinting idea and realized there was so much more to explore in that medium. WARES is more of an experiment, if you will, and I want to push the boundaries a bit when it comes to production.

WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION?

I believe that the timing of life is no coincidence, so I try my best to remain present and let the world inspire me. Right now specifically, I have been drawn to symbols and their universal and nuanced meanings in communication between humans.

ANY ADVICE FOR THOSE WANTING TO START THEIR OWN BRAND?

Stay grounded in who you are as an individual and what your brand represents and go out and make something that you would be proud to be included in your legacy.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR 285 JUNE?

I see myself getting back to releasing a lot more content related to my projects with print and WARES. I personally enjoy engagement with the brands that I buy from, so I am always looking for ways to make the brand more interactive. Maybe create another installation, as I
spoke to my boy Darrien about.
